"TERRORISM"

We should have no doubts that the actions of those who committed the bombings in London were the actions of criminal murderers.

At the same time we mus remember that the action so of the US, UK, Australian and other countries military in Iraq "fighting for freedom" were also the actions of criminal murderers.

The historian Norman Davies sums it up best:

"The distinction between terrorists and freedom fighters has nothing to do with the nature of their activities and everything to do with the viewpoint of their enemies or admirers."

aleks, i like that quote, it is all about perspective. the way the word insurgent has started to be used about resistance fighters in iraq. insurgent has connotations of being against the lawful authority. well hello, maybe in the "insurgents' " eyes they are freedom fighters. and the coalition think THEY are freedom fighters too. it's all too hard.

I heard somewhere that the victor get to write his version of history. I think it was in the DaVinci Code. Isn't that why the Nazi's burnt books?

that's right, i've heard that. but it's not just the victor. even the defeated will rewrite their history too, even if they can only do it orally and not officially. and it's not just the nazis, it's everyone. do you think that the republic of turkey refers to the armenian massacre in any documents, especially school books, likewise japan re comfort women and the rape of nanjing, as well as the treatment of the rest of world war 2. australia too, i don't think we teach our kids [in primary schools anyway] the truth about the stolen children and terrible treatment of indigenous australians. it goes on and on. english and irish. israel and palestine. turks and kurds as well. nz anglos and maoris. candians and indigenous canadians. us and native americans. jews everywhere. gypsies. all countries in the world would do the same thing. because there are always at least two sides to a story, and that's all history is, one of those stories, depending on where you are standing.

In any battle the victors get to write, and re-write the history as they see fit.
